A Clearly Defined Structure Designed by Poppe*Prehal Architects, Hiding State-of-the-Art Timber Construction Behind Its Facade
At first glance, you wouldn’t suspect that behind this cleanly defined structure, designed by Poppe*Prehal Architects, lies cutting-edge timber construction. The building is made from Austrian spruce, which we specially thermally treated and pre-greyed for the project.
This versatile structure is built entirely from wood, positively impacting construction time and reducing it to a record-breaking ten months.
The rapid progress mirrors that of the Metro St. Pölten project, which was also developed in collaboration with POPPE*PREHAL and has won multiple awards for architecture and sustainability. This success provided ample reason to implement the Zistersdorf project with the same winning team—never change a winning team—drawing from the positive experiences in St. Pölten.
This decision not only enhances the quality of life for the school community and other users of the facility but also benefits the environment: choosing solid wood construction saved an impressive 250 tons of CO₂ emissions.
